Quentin Elijah Johnson began his aGROWKulture Urban Farm journey in 2020 in Atlanta, GA, inspired by his daughter. With a passion for sustainable agriculture and a vision to cultivate a variety of crops, he transitioned into farming to make a difference. aGROWKulture Urban Farm is a testament to this commitment, featuring a diverse range of produce, pollinator-friendly flowers, and thriving honeybee colonies.
On the farm, Johnson grows an array of seasonal crops to ensure fresh and flavorful produce year-round. This selection includes:
- Collard Greens: A staple in many Southern dishes, providing a nutritious and hearty addition to any meal.
- Colorful Bell Peppers: Vibrant and sweet, these peppers add a pop of color and flavor to various culinary creations.
- Hot Peppers: Including Carolina Reapers, jalapeños, and cayenne peppers, catering to those who love a spicy kick.
- Sweet Potatoes: Known for their versatility and nutritional benefits, these tubers are a farm favorite.
- Tomatoes: Featuring unique varieties such as Orange Jazz, Accordion, and Sun Gold, each offering distinct flavors and uses.
- Herbs: A diverse selection including dill, parsley, oregano, peppermint, chocolate mint, and various types of basil (Genovese, Blue Spice, Lettuce Leaf), adding aromatic and flavorful enhancements to dishes.
- Carrots and Beets: Detroit Red beets and crisp carrots provide vibrant and nutritious options for farm customers.
The farm is also home to beautiful pollinator cut flowers, including zinnias and pollinator mixes. These flowers not only enhance the farm’s aesthetics but also support the health of local pollinators.
With six thriving hives, Johnson manages honeybee colonies that play a crucial role in pollination. The bees contribute to the farm’s productivity and biodiversity, while also producing delicious, farm-fresh honey.
