Legacy Gardens, Montgomery, AL

Consuelo Bradley of Legacy Gardens in Montgomery, Alabama is fighting climate change by adapting agricultural practices to changing environmental conditions.
As the driving force behind Legacy Gardens, Consuelo Bradley, a native of the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, embodies the essence of her name, “Consuelo,” which means “comfort” in Spanish, as she tirelessly works to bring comfort and solace to individuals in need. In 2020, amidst the challenges to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mrs. Bradley envisioned a brighter future for her community. Thus Legacy Heritage, operating as a giving and therapeutic garden, was born with a mission to empower individuals and communities through education, health initiatives, and social programs. Legacy Heritage strives to create lasting impact by fostering self-sufficiency, promoting equity, and building a brighter future for all by leading the way in developing green spaces for public gardens and meeting places. These sanctuaries not only provide solace amid uncertainty, but also serve as vital hubs for social interaction, wellness activities, and educational initiatives.
By inserting 30 five-foot-tall metal raised garden beds into existing ground-level beds, this initiative will shield crops from climate change-induced flooding, safeguarding future harvests.
