Patrick Brown is the owner and operator of Brown Family Farms in Warren County, North Carolina, where he and his family farm 165 owned acres and 385 leased acres. With roots dating back to 1865, Brown Family Farms has a deep legacy of agriculture, producing wheat, soybeans, oats, field corn, and industrial hemp. Patrick began farming alongside his father at the age of ten, and today he carries that tradition forward with the help of his nephews and three employees.
The farm’s grains are sold to outlets such as Carolina Ground, Bailey Feed Mill, and Perdue, while produce reaches wholesale markets including FreshPoint, Sysco, and Keaney Produce, in addition to CSA customers. With the support of the 2025 RAFI Farmer Infrastructure Grant, Patrick is investing in infrastructure improvements that will strengthen the farm’s capacity and open access to new and emerging markets.
As a member of the National Black Growers Council, Patrick is dedicated not only to the success of his own farm but also to advancing opportunities for Black farmers nationwide. For him, farming is rooted in joy — the satisfaction of planting and harvesting each season’s crops.
