Wenceslaus Provost Jr. is the owner and operator of Provost Farm, an 85-acre family farm in New Iberia, Louisiana, where he grows sugarcane. Farming has been a lifelong journey for Wenceslaus; he began farming in 1994 and officially established Provost Farm in 2007. Today, his sugarcane is sold wholesale, to distilleries and sugar mills, and directly to the general public.
The 2025 RAFI Farmer Infrastructure Grant will support Provost Farm by helping cover essential farm expenses, ensuring the farm’s continued ability to provide high-quality crops while sustaining its operations. Wenceslaus farms alongside his family, carrying forward a legacy that connects him not only to the land but also to the history and resilience of his ancestors.
Despite facing significant losses over the years, Wenceslaus remains steadfast in his mission: to encourage the public to engage with agriculture and to uplift the often-overlooked stories of local sugarcane farmers. For him, farming is more than a livelihood — it is a calling, a tradition, and a way to honor the generations who came before while paving the way for those yet to come.
