Tarah Steele is the owner of Steele’s Town Creek Farm in Newton, North Carolina, where she and her family raise forest-raised pork and pasture-raised eggs on 20 acres. Since starting the farm in 2021, Tarah has been committed to providing her family and community with clean, healthy food while teaching her four children the value of knowing where food comes from.

Steele’s Town Creek Farm sells products through the local farmers market, directly from the farm, and through their own CSA program. Tarah has also enjoyed opening the farm to preschool and school groups, where children delight in meeting the animals and learning about farming firsthand. Her favorite part of farming is both enjoying the food her family raises and connecting with other farmers, whom she considers “the best type of folks.”
With support from this grant, Tarah will install perimeter fencing on her farm. This project will improve safety for both her animals and her neighbors by providing a reliable barrier beyond the electric fencing and netting the family currently relies on. The fence will save time, reduce stress, and strengthen the farm’s foundation for growth.
