
Bruje Fuego (they/them) is proud to accept the RAFI Caribbean Infrastructure grant on behalf of Somos Espejos. Somos Espejos is an agroecological and ceremonial retreat center in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, Borikén. Somos Espejos provides ceremonial agroecological and agroforestry ancestral land stewarding and is proud to be part of the Fideicomiso para la Agroecología (Trust for Agroecology), where they are committed to be guardians of the ecosystems, food sovereignty, and ancestral and spiritual medicines in the archipelago of Borikén. They are part of an international network of decolonized healers, spiritual and land workers, water defenders, and mycelium solidarity for collective healing and liberation. They provide healing and ceremonial retreat space for decolonized connections, rest, healing, celebration, and liberation. Some harvests from the land include but are not limited to avocados, breadfruit, coconuts, papayas, varieties of bananas, plantains, guavas, ginger, turmeric, variety of flowers, variety of medicinal plants/herbs, yautia, malanga, yuca, mamey, tamarindo, soursop (guanabana), chaya, hibiscus, pigeon peas (gandules), corn, squash, vetiver, ñame, sugarcane, and more. With the funds awarded, Somos Espejos intends to work with elders in the community to construct a water tank. The elders, for generations, have defended the sacred sweet spring waters in Trujillo Alto and have collective knowledge in building tank/container structures for responsible and communal spring water harvesting and distribution.
