Help amplify our voices while we’re in Washington Monday-Wednesday, we are asking you — our community of farmers, advocates, and concerned citizens — to send a message to your representatives urging them to make climate change policy a priority in the 2023 Farm Bill and to support the Agriculture Resilience Act (ARA)

The Inflation Reduction Act offered a vital lifeline to many farmers when it authorized debt relief for economically distressed farmers and payments to those who have experienced discrimination. However, under current law those borrowers will still face a tax liability on those payments. A new bill introduced by Senator Booker on December 8 would remedy that tax burden by making both debt relief and discrimination payments under the IRA non-taxable.

For years, we’ve issued action alerts and policy updates around important policy issues so that they can speak up to their representatives and key policymakers about policies that affect their lives. This year, we’re expanding the ways that you can engage in our policy work through the creation of our new Policy Action Network.

Over the past few months, as Congress has debated the provisions of the “budget reconciliation” process, we’ve asked for your help advocating for major investments in climate-friendly agriculture and debt relief for farmers who need it. We are almost there. Ask your members of Congress to support its passage.

RAFI-USA wholeheartedly endorses the Relief for America’s Small Farmers Act, re-introduced by Sen. Gillibrand, which provides debt relief for small farms with FSA loans. We urge you to take action today and ask your legislators to cosponsor this critical bill and support its inclusion in any future legislative package.

Please contact your elected officials and ask them to support the Strengthening Local Processing Act which will expand processing infrastructure at small and very small plants, which will benefit independent farmers, local markets, co-ops, and consumers.

The Agriculture Resilience Act (ARA) is a farmer-focused, research-driven path to net zero agriculture which prioritizes investments in existing programs that are already working, but underfunded. Ask your members of Congress to co-sponsor today!
