For 25 years, RAFI’s Pittsboro, NC space served as the home for its programs, advocacy, and daily work. In November 2025, the RAFI community gathered to honor the space as it transitions to new ownership by the Town of Pittsboro. The event brought together farmers, staff, board members, and local supporters to reflect on the organization’s history, celebrate its impact, and mark the beginning of a new chapter rooted in gratitude and continued commitment.

As policymakers and agricultural institutions look toward solutions for a fractured food system, they would do well to look to Briarwood, where community is the model, and waste has no place.

RAFI mourns the passing of Michael Sligh on November 7, 2025 at home, lovingly cared for by his wife Janet and surrounded by family and friends.  We are honored to have worked with Michael, who was RAFI’s Just Foods Program Director for 29 years.
