Barney’s Produce Mart, Goldsboro, NC
Joanne Spruill is a lawyer by trade who still works in corporate America. Her mother, however, has been a farmer for quite a few years and Joanne is now also a farmer herself! She wants to continue the legacy of her mother and honor her late brother by cultivating her recently purchased land and opening a produce mart to provide organically grown fruits and vegetables to a food insecure population in Goldsboro, NC and surrounding areas. Barney’s Produce Mart is coming soon!
Joanne and her mother will use this grant to obtain a much-needed water source. This well will allow them to water crops and also serve as the water source for the produce mart facility. This is the first stage to provide organically grown fruits and vegetables to their underserved community!
