New Connecticut Farmer Alliance

Vernon, Connecticut

About Us:

The New Connecticut Farmer Alliance (NCTFA) is a statewide network of farmers and growers, and a Chapter of the National Young Farmers Coalition.. Our mission is to bring together emerging farmers from across Connecticut to network, share resources, and identify common challenges and opportunities for a more accessible, successful, and diverse agricultural community.

Our programming focuses on supporting and providing resources to new farmers, and includes: organizing and funding an assortment of gatherings, from topic-specific farmers circles to a large annual conference, throughout the year, direct grant-making to farmers, and promoting agricultural policy that centers new and small farmers.

A commitment to racial justice in CT agriculture forms the foundation of our policy platform. Through this lens, our member-driven policy objectives include: to improve the economic viability of farming, make farmland more accessible, confront climate change and build climate resilience, and increase access to affordable healthcare for farmers

Our Anticipated Grant Activities:

With the support of the RAFI BIPOC Climate & Equity Policy Grant, the New Connecticut Farmer Alliance (NCTFA) will contract with two BIPOC farmers (“Farmer Fellows”) to implement a focused lobbying and advocacy initiative. The project aims to 1) enhance land access and retention and improve access to USDA resources and programs in Connecticut and beyond and 2) increase farmer and public understanding of the effects of Farm Bill programming on racial justice.
