Taykiera Hyman operates a vibrant quarter-acre farm in Colerain, North Carolina, where she grows specialty crops, herbs, cut flowers, seeds, plants, and value-added goods. Her journey into farming began through her work in herbalism, a path that deepened her connection to the earth and her ancestors. Guided by that lineage, she sees farming as both her birthright and a way to ensure her family eats well while teaching her community the value of growing food.
Taykiera sells primarily at farmers markets, occasionally supplying wholesale hubs and CSA boxes, as well as on-farm sales. Her farm maximizes its small footprint with nearly 20 in-ground beds, raised beds, containers, fruit trees, an apothecary and seed shop, and soon, bees.
With this stipend, Taykiera is building an on-farm processing kitchen to create more value-added products and expand market opportunities. She treasures the sacred bond between people and the planting cycle, finding joy in slowing down, paying attention, and giving thanks for each harvest.
