Our Wildest Greens Urban Farm, Jackson, MS
Theodis and LaWanna Gammage are the owners of Our Wildest Greens Urban Farm in Jackson, Mississippi. They are both Southern California natives, from Compton and South-Central Los Angeles. Theodis has worked on houses his whole life, and LaWanna worked in the banking industry for almost 20 years. The couple decided to move to Mississippi for a change of pace and better quality of life for their family. The Gammages started growing food/vegetables for their family, and once the nearest grocery store closed, they knew that they had to get to work and cultivate their small 1.47 acres to begin producing fresh and good quality produce for their food desert community.
As beginning farmers, this stipend will help the Gammages clear the land on the farm for farming operations. This will allow them to move one step closer to not only providing healthy options for their community, but also showing others how they can have control of the food they provide to their families. Our Wildest Greens Urban Farm will be a place where the community can get their food for dinner, seeds to plant, and a healthy juice from produce grown locally.
